    Bump.

I'm trying to decide on this sand too! I love the look of finer grain, but I hate the idea of sand storms... I'm planning on having a very good amount of flow in my tank, so I almost know that it isn't for me already.

Bump...Is there any update to this? Im curious how it turned out. Also I see a choice between fine and course sand any recommendations? I also so that they have the same price for both the 20lb bags and the 40lb bags, which it was confirmed is not a typo and is the correct price.

My thoughts are: Unless you plan on pre-washing every bit of sand before adding it to the tank, I wouldn't suggest this route. Very fine grain and any fish or inverts that move sand, consistently create a stormy effect. I often find myself scraping the front glass, not for algae, but for dust from the sand.

I purchased 120 lbs for a DSB and could not get it to settle enough ended up purchasing 40 lbs of Carib Sea Live Sand from my LFS which did the trick.

However it may have been a bit much plan to reduce amount over time.... After all the intention was the nice fine look less the sand storms...

I also have the fine sand from Marco rocks. I like it and looks good but I does stir up. Don't know what its going to do when I get fish in there. Maybe looking to get a 20lb bag of coarse and put 10lbs in my 10 gal tank and put the rest on top.

I have zero problems with the fine sand. I didn't rinse it and I will say it took about a week to settle. Once it was settled, that was it. Occasionally a bit gets kicked up by fish or whatever but it doesn't make a mess.

I'm glad this thread came back up. I absolutely love my sand. It's extremely fine and I have zero sand storm problems now. It did take a while though. My orange diamond goby would sift and stir up sand like crazy for the first two weeks I had him (tank probably 3-4 months old), but he is almost always going to town and it's a total non-issue now. I moved hand fulls of sand around last week and within a minute there was no sign of any disturbance.

I would buy this sand again, wouldn't rinse it and make sure I had another sifting goby--I think he helped the most.

I did find that a poorly aimed powerhead will make quick work of the small sand, so a little tuning was in order.

so is the consensus not to rinse this sand before adding it? their website says "For best results Rinse well before use and allow sand to liven before introducing to turbulent flow."

Im probably ordering this stuff next week - what's the risks of not rinsing it well?

Hey boosted! Did you get the fine sand or the coarse? I have the fine sand and it does seem powdery but was thinking if it would eventually settle down and not have an issue with it?
