I received 80 lbs of the course sand last Friday and put 40 lbs in Saturday morning. I did not rinse it and it is still settling down. My current plan is to add the about 20 lbs more to the DT and the rest to the fuge a little at a time so that I don't have a massive sand storm again. But overall I love the look of the sand.

I had the same sand. Quick shipping, great product and a reasonable price. Can't beat that! I don't have any cloudiness any longer and I even re-scaped this evening.

I got the fine sand. Before the goby sifted all of the sand I was a little apprehensive, but now that all of the silt is gone it’s awesome stuff.

I’ve read elsewhere that rinsing it removes too much of the good stuff in the sand. If I ever upgrade my tank I’ll get more of this sand and will probably rinse it a little first.

Does anyone have a picture of the "coarse" sand?

I bought the coarse sand there is a couple pictures in my build threat. Compared to caribsea the coarse is still pretty fine but I have been really happy with it.

[IMG] got the fine sand and love it totally. It is nearly 95% cleared up but there is still some sediment still floating at the top.

How long has your sand been settling?

    fine sand

its been off and on for 4 days. i've been letting it settle for a day, tank looked 95% clear with some sediment staying at the top. also if any body know how to get rid of this i would appreciate it? and then i cleaned the floss put in the canister filter. not sure if this is the way to go about this issue? leave it alone?

    Fine sand

I too like the look of a fine sand bed, keep in mind the finer the sand the harder it is for oxygen to get through which in the long term will grow the wrong kind of bacteria.
I have always used a mix of sand both fine and large around 2 to 2.5 inches, with a 30 -70 mix +- also have used NNR sand beds worked well on my 750 reef back in the day:)

    Good Luck!!

I have always had a fine sugar sized sand in my tank but only have about 1-2" max. Looks like its going to do very well in your tank. How much sand is that like in LBS? and the size of your tank?

    Nice scape BTW :)
