Anyone see any problems with using the old sand from my DT in the fuge I will be building for my new tank in the next month or so?

Should I rinse the sand with salt water before use or just put it right into the fuge. My sand has been in my reef tank for about 3 years but i will be using new sand in the new tank and seed it with a handful of the sand I have now.

I just put sand right from my DT into my fuge. I didn't notice any bad side effects.

Not if the new tank has to cycle and there's nothing in it. If that's not the case you should rinse the sand imo. Or if your fuge is remote you can keep it off line, recirculate through itself and polish the water with a power filter until the mini cycle ends.

Thanks guys! The new tank will have to cycle so I'll just dump in right in there once I start the build.
