Sand Media Filters

    Just curious if anyone has or does use a filter with sand as the filtering media. How well do they work? Pros / Cons?

    Looks like a nitrate factory to me. It deals with nitrite and ammonia, which any sand bed or live rock does. It doesn't deal with nitrate or phosphate which are arguably the biggest concern in a post cycle aquarium.

    I really think this is a solution looking for a problem. Maybe I am missing something tho?
