sand shifting starfish

    i know the different stories with starfish but i had one question.is having a sand shifting star dangerous in a reef tank? and please post expiernces if any to help

    I have one of these. It spends most of it's time (about 95%) under the sand. It has never attacked any of my corals. In fact, I cannot remember a time when I actually have seen it climb the rocks. If anything, it will climb the glass, then disappear under the sand again for days on end. The only thing with sandstars is, when you aquascape, you must make sure you don't crush them. That is the only thing annoying about a sandstar.

    It's not that they're dangerous, it's just that they consume all of your sand fauna so if you're running a deep sand bed, you're pretty much headed for a crash. Also, if you don't have a large enough tank, the starfish will quickly deplete its food source and subsequently starve to death.

    I have never had any problems with mine. I have had it in my tank for over a year and no problems.

    ok so no horror stories on sand shifting starfishes great and no he is not gonna be food for no one.lol but one more question whats the biggest someone has ever seen one get?mines is at 2 inches.(this was one that i def did not research)

    he will not get much bigger, maybe another inch or two. In the wild they can get 12 inches across.
