    I want to get something that will help keep the substrate clean but is safe with my livestock can you advise me on a sand sifting star that is safe in a reef? Thanks8)

    You want a sand sifting star then you should get a sand sifting star. I have three in my tank and there great.

    I wouldn't recommend that for a small tank. They need large tanks to survive. I had one in my 40G for about 7 months when I noticed all the legs starting to curl on the ends which is a sign of becomming death. I traded him just in time the fish store claims. He was about 2 X's the size though! =)
    Get some snails that burrow in the sand, thats what I did they work great.

    Definately 50g for a star. If you feed heavy enough for it or have a LARGE bioload it may be okay, but I wouldn't try.

    Did not notice your tank is only 20g, Most likely it will starve. I have three in mine but the tank is 5' long by 18" wide

    i would recommend diamon goby or dragon gody they work really great

    I couldn't agree more. I had a sand sifting star for...maybe a little under a year, its health went down hill fast. As for sand sifter that will live I say go with nassarius snails. They are pretty nifty little buggers.

    Nassarious snails keep the top mixed up well.
