    any advice on creatures - fish or inverts- that will keep a sand bed clean and turn it over? TIA

    a sand shifting goby is probably the best option. a sand star doesn't turn the upper layers of the sand at all, only the bottom. they also sell sand crabs at saltwaterfish.com you know the kind that you dig up at the beach.

    I'm looking for the same... A lot of people seem to suggest the black cucumber since it supposedly doesn't eat pods, just cleans up the sand...

    I happen to love my Blue Spot Sleeper Goby. He "excavtes" all over my tank. You never know what the bottom of the tank is going to look like. He definatle churns things up, plus he's just plain funny to watch. Good luck in your choice!
