The sand sifting stars mainly eat detritus, they are reef safe and wont harm corals. They stay buried in the sand and dont move much until they are finished with one area. People say they will decinigrate your pods and such, but what fish or invert wont? I have my sand sifting star and Diamong goby in my 125 and have been fine for 2 years now. There are alot of other critters in the sand bed also, I say have fun with the sifting star

Pretty sure mine is starving... shrinking.. limb loss, etc..

Again, don't get these things unless you have a big tank with an established and deep sand bed.. I don't think anyone has figured out how to feed them otherwise.

My sandsifter has been in the tank for at least a year maybe more. It has never hurt any of my corals and I have never seen it on the rocks. It does appear to be getting a little larger 3.5-4 in but seems to get around just fine in my 120 gl.

Mine has been in my tank for 2 weeks. I noticed a couple of days ago, half of one arm was missing and another had a 'cut' in it. Today, it only has 2 arms, the rest are stubs. Either a case of disintegration, or I have a predator lurking in my tank. Could my lovely fiji rock be hiding a mantis shrimp? [smiley=worried.gif]

Are you keeping the brittle star?
I really don't know anything about them. I would like to have a orange linkia some day. I understand that they stay out during the day and they climb on the glass. I think that would be pretty neat. I assume that the linkia and sandsifter would get along. I guess I need to research that a bit first.
