I've had a hell of a week. I woke up to no flow in one tank and lost a flame angel and lawnmower blenny. Yesterday the power went out and my tanks dropped about 6 degrees. This morning I woke up to a mj1200 hanging pointed down at my sandbed in my large tank. Most of my low coral was buried and the guys higher up were dusted. They are all pissed off or close to death.

so what have you woken up to that makes you want to cuss and kick things?

I went on vacation for 10 days and left my brother in charge, he did a good job, but one my maxijet 1200s did the same thing, he though everything was going to die. It turned out fine. Just blow off the sand off the corals and they will most likely be fine. I've also woken up to my PH dying, my return pump running dry twice, and my sump oveflowing twice. It happens.

So far I've lost a clam, some acros and duncans and my big open brain is pulling away from its skeleton. bummer. Wonder what I'll find when I go home today.

Did your return pumps die after running dry? How did your sump overflow? Did you swamp your floor and cause it to rain downstairs?

dang, what kind of controller do you have? I would like to get one but I think I might get a webcam first. I wont get the data but it might make the day go by a little quicker.

I woke up one day to find that the airline tubing I was drip feeding through overnight fell and turned into a floor soaking siphon. My return pump and skimmer pump both sounded like they were having dry heaves as they sucked air in the sump. Both my heaters cracked from being in no water, and to top it off I happened to not have salt at the moment. I didn't have time to go get some, so I just shut it all off and hoped for the best. I didn't lose anything.

If it was a Deep sand bed in the tank that was dug up by the powerhead then the sand had litle to do woth it any coral bleaching. I have had corals buried in sand for a day or two and lost nothing or ever had a issue with anything ever having sand on it a few days . Ever seen a reef during or right after a tropical storm ?

doh, I ment to say Acan instead of Acro. my bad. My largest acan colony only has about half of its heads left and my duncans are going fast. I don't know what it is with those duncans but as soon as I lose one head, the entire colony goes.

so Tangster, you never lost a softy to sand? what about the rest of you guys. ever lose softies or clams from getting buried?

hey mikejrice, what were you drip feeding?

No sir I have set thousands of soft corals and clams and lps and SPS on the tanks bottom never lost anything . Now I'm not saying I buried them under sand and they live :) But is I ever used sand it was never a fine sugar sand or have I ever had my circulation flows directed to the point of coverg any thing either . If that was a problem I aimed the water flows differently . I have a sunburst Monti now encrusting the bottom along with a galaxia and several other SPS and when a little sand gets on them they or something gets it off in a day or so.. And a clam will dig its self in or out of sand or walk or move to get where it wants to. I do set all my clams on a 1/2 shell or flat rock to help protect them.. r
