I have, since the early 1970s advocated the protecting of the whales. Controlled hunting, like with deer and other creatures. I found this interesting and it brings back to mind that we shouldn't just accept everything we read or hear but investigate.

Although I despise Paul Watson and would love to agree 100% with the article, I found a few of the comments below the article to be far more interesting/accurate than the article itself.

I also agree with what I think unclejed's premise is i.e. don't believe all you are fed do your research.

I'm sorry but that show is horrible. What they do is imo just as bad if not worse than the whalers. They are modern day vigilanties and their antics are nothing but piracy. Boarding another vessel? Whats that called in Somolia? Yup piracy. In international water isnt that boat considered sovereigned property of that nation? (I maybe wrong) In the event that it is, didnt they forcibly invade another nation? Some guy named Saddam something or other did that in 1990 or so. It was a small headline though & nothing really came of that right?

Throwing ropes and chains in the water is disable a vessel? ok, what if it sinks or damges that vessel & those on board are killed by a catastrophic engine failure? Are they not then murderers? Sure they stopped the whalers and in some eyes killed the bad guys, but who are they to be judge, jury & executioner?

That fancy boat that was one like the worlds fastest boat that got sunk cause it parked infront of a 1000 ton boat moving like 10mpg? Really? That is just straight darwinism.

If I drive down the highway throwing nails infront of vehicles that dont signal when changing lanes thats ok cause they are breaking a law right? Maybe throw bricks thru the windshields when they drive? Same thing right?

They talk about peace and act thru violence.

They are improving the enviroment for the whale? How much fuel, water & noise polution are they contributing to with thier boats & helicopters? That boat that got wrecked, they let it sink with how much fuel, oil, batteries & everything else on board? It's ok to poison the water as long as the whales can swim thru it?

The only thing that show tells the story of is how they who controls the media wins.

Do I agree with non-legitmate whale harvesting? No, I dont, and I am by no means defending them. There is however diplomatic and legal means to control what happens.

Word of the day? Double Standard.

Having said that, thanks I feel much better now.

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
The idea that it's better we be critical and find fault with others methods than actively making an effort or contribute to the conservation of whales, is interesting. Sitting on the side lines and waiting for the results to come in, be it yea of nay for the whales is a far better and safer way to proceed. That way we can not be judged nor can anyone find fault with our empathy.

Now I have said my PEACE!

Interesting read, but did you check their facts? Anyone can prove anything to be right if that is the end they are looking for.

Paul Watson may be an extremist, but sometimes it takes someone on the extreme end of the fight with no real power to get someone closer to neutral with a lot of power to speak up. Take a look back at history, and you will see that it's the extremists that start the mainstream into motion.

When the government fails to act, it is our responsibility to stand up and make change even if by force. Peace and love is a great thought, but nothing turns heads like violence!

I actually love the show. Our club is actually in contact with Paul Watson trying to get him to come speak.

The biggest issues are 100% cultural. Americans feel that killing whales for food is wrong. The Japanese feel it's fine. Western Civilization feels that killing dogs for food is wrong. In some Asian countries it's considered fine. Americans feel killing horses for food is wrong. In some European countries, it's fine. In America, bacon makes everything better. In Muslim countries eating pork is disgusting. It's all in our cultural perception.

Should we criticize the food of choice for another culture? Tough question. What about this: DailyTech - Japanese Make "Delicious", Nourishing Steaks From Human Feces
