The cultural issues I agree with completely. After travelling to quite a few countries around the world I can admit we as Americans are quite frankly ignorant to other customs & cultures.

Paul Watson's drive and desire towards a cause I can agree with. Hell after nearly 20 years of military service I can feel and relate for his desire to a cause & calling. Despite my previous post I can respect the man for that. I really can.

It's just the methods that I have other feelings about.

As I said the last time we discussed this here on 3reef that even if you don't agree with the method. His goal is essentially to help save our planet.

Regardless as to whether what japan is doing is right or wrong you can't take matters into your own hand and attack other boats. You can't even argue that "the ends justify the means" because they are still killing lots of whales. If they pit more effort into fighting it politically they might get some where. I can't believe other countries haven't pressured the US into doing something about it.

Greenpreace has been fighting it "legally " for years and gotten absolutely nowhere.Which is why he left that org. Also I am not sure if you are aware but the Japanese actually suspended there hunt this year well under the quota of whales to be killed because of these freakin maniacs.

One day someone is going to be killed. I've spent 8 years in the Coast Guard and boarding a vessel by force is considered piracy and you can defend your vessel and crew by force if need be. You come on my boat uninvited and with unknown intentions, you will probably be buried at sea.

    Just saying....

Yeah, except that commercial or private ships in international waters aren't supposed to have weapons on them.

They certainly can. International commercial vessels can even have armories.

I was a federal boarding officer and conducted more container ship boardings than I can remember. Private vessels can have any weapon they want as long as they have the correct documentation.

Sorry, I was thinking about the situations that arise when docking in different countries.

Yeah the gun rules are tricky to say the least. I hope I didn't come off as being crass, as that was not my intention.

I for one agree with the non whalers, but I dont feel as though we have the right to impose "our views" on other countries. I dont care for those Sea Shepard peoples tactics, but I understand their passion though and respect it. If more people had the same passion for the things that they think are wrong the world would be a different place. Just look at what the people of Egypt did.
