    Hello All,

Just joined and am looking forward to my newest adventure and learning something new everyday.

I was given a 55gal, equipped with a Fluval 405, 1 Maxi-Jet 900 and what looks to be perhaps a Penguin (with the same flo as the Maxi-Jet)heater(unknown brand), Coralife Compact lighting-2 65watt actinic, 2 65watt 10,000Ks with 4 LEDs. Currently looking for a protein skimmer-likely go with the Remora. Substrate is a combo of fine live sand and argonite.
Live rock-at least 50lbs but guessing that. Fills it up nicely. Live rock was neglected and consequently I inherited lots of nuisance algae.

Tank was emptied down to about 3 inches of water and moved on a platform. I'm figuring this helped make my tank cycle to shortened.

Large 3 3/4" Tomato Clown(female) and 3 large Tonga Nassarius Snails came with. Nuisance algae was driving me nut so purchased 2 Emerald crabs, 3 peppermint shrimp, 1 serpent star and 7 each of(tiny-small) Nassarius and (small) Cerinth snails and 1 2" Fighting Conch. Then a week later added 6 Mexican Turbo snail. Nuisance algae all cleaned up within a week! Got to hand it to those Turbos!

Decided to add a Coral Beauty and got mixed advice on compatability with the Tomato. Dead Coral Beauty! Needless to say Barney the *****(don't ask) Tomato Clown with be in a new home tomorrow!

Plans are to add 2-3 Banggai Cardinals, Royal Gramma, Firefish and either a Coral Beauty or Flame Angel. Later some corals, a few urchin or anemones.

    Comments and advice always welcome!

Welcome to your new home :D

How long did this procedure take place? I'm concerned because CB's aren't the hardiest and if your water conditions weren't right, it could have passed from that. Removing all that water and having the LR exposed while moving would create die off as well as the sand possibly stirring up some nasty stuff. You most likely experienced a new cycle, though possibly somewhat shorter than a normal one.

    Welcome to 3reef.

Buy ammonia, nitrate, nitrite, pH, alkalinity and phosphate test kits to start. Get calcium and magnesium when you want to add coral. Be aware that dwarf angels can be hit or miss when it comes to being reef safe. You have chosen two of the most likely candidates for reefs.

hello, there is a lot of great info on this site. congrats on the tank. have you tested the water yet?? i am curious about the nitrate and phosphate. the control of the algae is a good sign. i got a "used" 55 gallon and i battled high N03, cause the previous owner had neclected it.

Welcome!! Tomato clowns can become quite aggressive, so giving her away is a good choice so you can have a happy, peaceful community tank.

    Let's see some pics!!

Forgot to report ALL Water testing fabulous! PH, Ammonia,Nitrite, Nitrate and Phosphate. SG consistenly between 1.024 & 1.025. This is week 3 post move. Will be purchasing Calcium & Magnesium test kits in a few weeks. Live rock was transported in orginal tank water previous to the move with only a few seconds air time. This tank was moved only two house down from original home. I'll post some photos as soon as I get a chance. Only thing I'm disaointed in the tank itself, is the front has more than a few scratched areas on the glass.
