I need some help. My grandmother has a pond that was built in ground of stone and concrete in the 1970's. It is a disaster and I need to make a big purchase to get this back on track.

I know 0 about freshwater/ponds as far as what equipment I need and flow, etc.

It is ~750-1000 gallons total volume and has a 4 foot high waterfall that splits into 2 separate returns to opposite ends of the pond. Each waterfall run is 16" wide and has 3 tiers.

Tell me what I need to make this happen! Thanks guys!!

Is it dry or does it have junk in it now?

I have about a pond about double that, It's really easy to run if ya do it right!

First get in and get stinky! The stuff on the bottom is gonna reak! Get most if not all of it out and cleaned.

Next get on ebay and get some barley balls for the algae, tie them of so they float, not sink, that will clear up the algae, then consider a filter with uv to keep it clean.

Large ORGANIC BARLEY BALL REFILL/ ALGAE / KOI PONDS | eBay

    I have this
Laguna PT-1500 Pressure-Flo 700 UVC pressurized Koi Pond Filter | eBay

I also bought from ebay, some japanese trap door snails, clams, etc to help.

Then one of the best things ya can do is add a few water lilies and some pond lettuce. This will help filter the water and keep sunlight out to knock down the algae and keep it cool! Prob 3 lilies and 1 water lettuce and you'll be fine!

BTW, ya don't need the filter/uv really at all, it will just save ya a ton of headache and work IMO!

Get in there and clean it! Drain some of the water, remove as much junk as you can, get filtration going...

That will be a pretty big task, so you might want to hire someone to come clean it for you. There are pond cleaning companies! It will be expensive, but they know what they are doing and are efficient.

Make sure you install some sort of filtration.
