Ok, so i was wonder which of the following would be the best for a school of 3 in a 55g.
chromis,-blue,green or bluefin, lemon, bicolor, black and white?
    cardinals-bangaii, pajama, or orange striped

I want a good open water swimmer to add some activity to my tank that will get along and not be aggressive to my current tank mates.
    Solor fairy wrasse
    ocellaris clownfish

    Thanks,
    Joe

Have you considered a trio of Fire fish?

Chromis, blue always adds a ton of color and very active.

I like the Orange Striped Cardinals as well.

i bought 3 chromis for my 55 hoping they would school however, 2 of them paired up and are always together and the 3rd just hangs out around my overflow avoiding the other 2 :/

not sure that you will get much schooling in a tank that size. maybe with the cardinals but they won't give you a lot of activity.

You should look at longspine cardinals. They seem to be the best schooling fish as far as I've seen.

Blue/green chromises will probably do pretty good in a 55. A good school of 3-5 will look nicely IMO.

honestly, I really just want something more active in my tank. the clown I have is so tiny you barely notice him at the top corner of the tank and the wrasse is currently in hiding. It was suggested that if I add some active fish that would help. I like some of the suggestions. I just need to talk it over with my wife. she seems to have final say.

Not sure what direction we want to go. first objective is to add some activity to the tank.

    Thanks everyone for your responses

how are your firefish getting along? I have heard they will get territorial if you keep more than one in a tank. But I would love to have a trio for myself. :)

    Hey cool.

    I got mine young.

I like the way they hover in a grouping. Not huge swimmers like chromis.

I also heard they would get aggressive but I have never had an aggression issue with Fire Fish.

    Good luck.
