    Hey,

I was wondering in a sci-fi writer mindset, what it would be like if we discovered a way to cultivate and maintain zooxanthellae in mammals, possibly including humans. It could mean that livestock - or humans - could potentially subsist on water, minerals and light.

It could be an awesome help in space travel... Or spark a dystopian future where only the rich get to actually eat, as food goes at astronomical prices.

That would mean you would have to find a way for animals to harness the energy created by the organisms without ingestion. Both of those processes (photosynthesis and respiration) took almost 4 billions years to evolve.

The problem with space travel isn't available food, it's the fact that it takes our fastest space craft 6-12 months to reach the next closest planet and 10 years just to leave our own solar system. It would take 81,000 years to travel to the next nearest star....

Sounds like a good movie at least! I think it's a cool thought to play with in screen write.
