My LFS has a tiny scooter blenny that I like, and the lady said i could have it for 5 dollars!, i bet it's not even an inch big, maybe an inch. I was wondering if it would be happy in my thirty gallon, I have loads of live rock and bugs and stuff. I've heard and read they are picky eaters and need a big tank. Also I don't have a sand bed, I got a mix of crushed coral and some white sand I added for looks. It looks very happy at the store and just hops along searching for critters

Well, the issue with these guys are that they are like the Mandarin dragonettes when it comes to the diet they require. They pretty much only eat pods and in a 30 gallon tank they will most likely wipe out the pod population within a week. Hope this helps :)

how old is the tank?scooter dragonets are pretty hard to care for they eat pods and tiny microfauna on the rock. they need very docile fish because aggressive fish will kill it. theres much more to say about this fish ...

yeah I mean you could supplement the diet of the fish but it would cost a lot buying pods all the time

Before my tank crashed, I had a pair of Mandarins and 3 scooter blennies in my tank. There wasn't many pods in my tank at the time so I ordered a bag of copepods and rotifers and made a rubble pile for the pods to breed in.
I placed a rock pile in my bigger tank when I started over and some of my pods now are huge and I'm sure they are breeding in the tank.
If it were my tank and I had pods in it, I would make a rubble pile, turn the power off for about 10 minutes, squirt a couple drops of food into the pile of rocks...make the pile where the fish can't get in. The pods will go toward the food if they are hungry. Give them a few minutes to settle in then turn the power back on. My Mandarins would hang out at my rock pile waiting for the food to come out.
I had them for almost a year before the big crash. Besides pods my Mardarins and Scooters would eat blood worms, fish eggs, and brine shrimp.
If you really want to try him, ask the person at the fish store to feed him in front of you.

Tank has been up and running almost two years, tons of liverock, only other fish in it are two small ocelaris clowns. I can see tons of pods on the glass, rock, and substrate. Also I already had it set up so that there was a few places the fish couldn't get to, I could squirt some food in those areas I guess...when I was cycling my tank I had an explosion of pods, had so many the water was cloudy, I turned off all the circulation and sure enough it was millions of pods

I get small rocks and pieces of dead coral and pile all of them up. The pods love it and I feed it once a week and my pods are getting so big. I'm almost ready for my Mandarin pair.
