I've had one for a little while now and have never spot fed it. It wont take any prepared foods anyways lol. They seem to be good scavengers IME.

Just make sure you have an established pod community, or it will most likely starve to death.

Mine starved to death. Im guessing that he died for the same reason that my red spotted blenny died a week later. Im guessing a somewhat young tank is not good for feeding them. I put in two bottles of copepods and it didnt solve anything.

Yeah, they need a very established pod population, and even then..

    Sorry to hear that :(

As far as the Scooter Blenny being able to find its own food, the answer is yes. But there has to be enough pods for him to find. You'll want to supplement his regular scavenging with feeding though. I would recommend that you purchase a dragonette that is already eating some type of frozen or prepared food.

My scooter ate mysis and arcti-pods when I first got him. Eventually my pod population satisfied him and he stopped eating when I did feedings. If your tank is new, I would recommend getting a pod population started before getting a dragonette.

+1 to everyone! Unfortunately I've gone through 2 scooter blennies =[. They both eventually turned to the mysis shrimp that I was feeding since they were probably desperate and hungry, but it was too late. I spent maybe close to $80 on pods alone but it never solved anything. Every time I added pods, the clowns got to them first. I tried adding them at night too but it didn't help. The second scooter I had was awesome, it was a male with that nice big sail on its back.

So yes they are good at finding their own food, given that they have food to find.

It's weird because I have a fuge with a huge pod population but it seems like none of the pods have ever made it into the main tank. I have never seen a pod in the main tank.
