Is scotch tape safe to use in an aquarium? Any kind of tape? I have some black background material I want to tape on the outside of an internal overflow box.

I wouldn't think tape would hold for long under water. Is it acrylic? I've heard krylon fusion (spray paint) works great, and once dry it is aquarium safe. Wouldn't take long to take the overflow out of service and get it done, then back up again.

It is glass. I may actually use a magnetic powerhead to keep it in place. Otherwise I'll try the tape and see how long it holds.

Agreed, the tape won't hold under water. You can, however, use super glue.

If you can get the area dry then you could use silicone which is pretty easy to remove off of glass.

This is ultimately what I will probably do as I have some silicone left over.

your best bet would be krylon fusion spray paint. only thing bad about it is bigger snails/urchins will eat through it.
