Just cleaned the scrubber. GHA growth in the tank has definitely subsided considerably. 2 major changes:
I noticed the beginning of a deep green algae mat on the upper (right) 1/4 of the screen. You can see the color difference where the tank water actually spills onto the screen. This will grow throughout the screen untill it takes over completely.
I also noticed after lifting out the screen for scraping, within the reservoir where the screen sits, I noticed hundreds of pods swimming around.
The reason you clean/scrape the screen, is to remove excess algae that grows over the screen, blocking out light from the algae underneath. The screen is rinsed with freshwater to kill pods.....reason being, so the pods do not eat all the algae or keep the algae from growing. So, there is also a natural foodsource provided for the coral & fish in the tank.

lookin' good. I've noticed several different greens popping up in the brown as well on mine, it's not too far behind yours.

Man Steve, thats where I kick myself in the rump. This is an embarrassingly long story. But, you asked (I'll make it short). I'd been freaking out for weeks wondering where/what all this algae was about that was creeping into my tanks. I looked & researched & researched more thinking it was from food: rinsed all frozen food, quit phyto, changed bulbs, reduced photo period, placed 2 extra koralias, CUC from John, etc., etc.
DID EVERYTHING EXCEPT TDS MY WATER SUPPLY!!!!!!!!!!!! Thats alright Steve, I trust you.
So, this is my confession. My source water was 643 or so, my RO was 153, my DI was 151. That all ended 2 weeks ago when I started using DI from the Market. TDS below 11. I just bought a new RO/DI from Spectapure also and am making water as we speak.
I never took initial readings as the phosphate kit I had got wet. Then I saw the new electronic one on the thread from TDaquatics. So, I took the new kit back & ordered from TD.
The algae in the tank has definitely subsided. It was noticable from day-to-day. I used to pluck at least a cup of GHA everyday and was disgusted with water changes. About the third day though, I start getting algae. Tank glass goes about 4 or 5 days between scrubbing now.
The scrubber itself is still producing and growing an actual thick mat of algae instead of the long strands that get covered with slime & bubbles (yellow/brown). In the picture, you can see what I scraped off last Saturday.
Right now, I can say that the changes came mostly from the newer water that I brought in. More so when I get my new DI water in there. I expect the scrubber to eventually take over completely in this respect. AZ & John M. coached a lot. I was going to just buy the filters and change them out. But, I thought about it & liked the fact that the new RO/DI has 2 in-line TDS meters. So, I invested in a new unit.
I'll never buy junk or go cheap again when it comes to something so important.

I'll get it together though and get you some info.
