No argument here, Guy. When you're right, you're right.

I have aluminum 100's, and so does my buddy. The dive boat captain was experienced with the area, and our plan was to descend to 105' and remain there for no more than 7 min's.

Although we stuck to the plan; in retrospect, it was a dangerous undertaking. :)

you wont catch me at 100ft+ with a single tank filled with air :)

Keep in mind that "all useable gas except minimum gas" should only really ever be used for a drift dive where the boat follows your bubbles so you dont have to "turn" the dive at any point and navigate back to the boat. So in most cases you have even less time than 4 min if something goes wrong cause you still have to turn around and navigate back and not just start ascending once you hit minimum gas. I dont know anyone who would actually work into their dive plan to not get back to the boat and have to deploy your surface marker (hopefully you dive with one) so the boat can float around trying to find you....

Hate to hijack this thread, but this boat captain sends you on your way with a flag on a reel, and you drift. He picks you up when you surface. Ah, to be 28 again and stare death in the face! :)
