My first Q was which one is drilled, but you already answered that. At the risk of sounding like a "mom's boy", I would find out which one she was interested in first. I personally would get the Bow front, b/c of the "extra" space that you will get towards the middle of the tank. More space for more LR or an opening between two mounds.

Actually, the bow front has less space. Both tanks are 18" in the middle while the Bow is only 12" on the side and the rectangular one is 18" all across. The bow front is taller. That's why the water volume is similar between the two.

That would make my mind up right there. A deep tank (front to back) is preferable for aquascaping and is easier to maintain inside. A shallower tank (top to bottom) is preferable for reefkeeping b/c it requires less wattage of light to accomplish the same thing in your scenario.

As personal preference, I've never been a big fan of the inherent visual distortion caused by a curved glass surface; and find flat rectangular tanks to have a cleaner look--but that's just me.

If you had your choice of 2 tanks, both the same capacity, one less tall--
If you had your choice of 2 tanks, both the same capacity, one deeper from front to back--in this hobby it's a no brainer.

Of course opinions are like grains of sand on a beach; but to me, you'll be thanking yourself you went with the rectangular tank. One last thing, even though =Jwin= adeptly showed that creating a canopy for a bowfront is not too terribly difficult--you're much more apt to fashion one yourself or find one on ebay for a rectangular tank much more easily--but of course that might not be a variable in your equasion.

Whatever you choose, you'll have a awesome setup.

    Good luck!! And congratulations!! :)

I have both but I uses the bow as my DT. Yea, the bow does have higher visual distortion at certain angle, but in general, for other people to see, the bow simply looks better. Things look bigger. Just feel more different than the normal tank.

I have my tank set up right on top of a stair way. It is only 12" on the side. It "feels" like I still have room on the hall way to walk by. But of course, that's just fit for my particular situation. I agree with you, in general, I would use the rectangular one as the main tank as well.

Bowfront!....but them I'm partial to bowfronts. You're welcome to copy our canopy from the video contest. It turned out nicely and I'm still really happy with it.

I agree with you, Triplemom. I like the Bowfront better as well. It simply looks better, and different.

Hahaha well i am going with the bowfront, 1 because i like the curvature of the glass and everything does appear bigger, 2 because all my furniture is black and this will match.
All my moms furniture however is wood grain, she will appriciate the oak more. Now i just gotta get her on here on 3reef to catch up on some info, cause she lives 300 miles away and i cannot afford the trip if her system crashes
