What a day, I left this morning for class at around 10am and I come back to find 3 out of the 4 fish in my tank at the bottom of the tank belly up and did some research on the AUS sea apple (Highly Toxic) if upset. Well it hadn't eaten or opened up since I put it in the tank so I was questioning it. Come to find out that I went to the LFS after my emergency and the phosphates in my tank were as high as they could be :( in addition to that the Sea Apple must have released it's toxins into the water causing my fish to die and my anenomes are in bad shape I brought the cherry anenome back to the LFS along with the Sea Apple I now am using Phos Guard and did a 15 gallon water change. One question though, with Phos Guard I have a dual HOB filter where is the best place to place the filter bag with the Phos Guard in it??

I would run a separate PO4 reactor in the tank. I hope you researched that Sea Apple before you put him in there and not impulse buy him. If your water is not pristine, the last thing I would do is put a delicate fish in there especially that is toxic.

Wish you luck in your tank recovery.

    Wow, that is terrible!
However, Sea Apples release toxins in the water if they are severly stressed or about to die and this wouldn't have any effect on phosphates in your aquarium water. Phosphates would spur an outbreak of algae growth, but would not have any effect on the death of your fish. Is anything alive in your tank as of now?
I would do a water change and dose carbon for awhile to help if that is in fact what happened.
Good luck and again sorry to hear about your unfortunate event!
Did you test your other water parameters?

yeah you should really watch out for sea hares and inverts similar to that, alot of them a toxins as a defense mechinism. sorry to hear about it. i would do another water change (at least 30%) in the next day or so, IMO two days after the even occured

Yes, I did research about him after I had bought him though and understood what needed to happen to keep him healthy and the tank stable but I guess I didn't to it correctly.. :( Right now I have 4 anemones, 1 lunar wrasse that revived itself after my 15 gallon water change, and also a Coral Banded Shrimp and that is it, and some bullseye mushrooms. I did also check all the other parameters of the tank and they were all perfect but the problem was I did not have a phosphate test kit that's why I believe they got to the point that they were at and I understand that the Phosphate wasn't the main problem to my tragic event.. It was the sea apple, and thank you for all the advice but as for the PO4 reactor otty... Can you explain more to me?? I have the filter bag with the Phos-Guard in the HOB filter right before the water cycles back into the tank.. is this good/ok? And I hope the anemones don't go!! it's a 55 gallon as stated above.. reefman.

I really dont think the phos-gaurd is going to do much for you. I would do massive carbon dosing. Run as much as you can fit in those filters, and change it every other day for a week or two. Thats what got me through my anemone death

Well, packleader there was no anemone deaths, just the toxins from the sea apple and I did close to 50% water change.. Repeat again tomorrow?? and thanks for the think otty..
