I found a few of these on the beach yesterday (Florida - Gulf of Mexico). Does anyone know what kind of sea star are they and are they reef safe?

sorry for the crappy photo, I couldn't get the camera to focus right.

I'll try again with another photo. I can't get the camera to focus on just the sea star. The sea star is dark brown with white dots all over it. The dots are bumpy to the touch. There were several of them on the beach at low tide every day this week so I decided to take one home and put it in my QT.

I live in Tampa Fl I have two of them in the tank and have not messed with my corals at all. All research I have ever seen it's just labeled as a Florida Brown Starfish LOL no real other info.

Sweet thanks! I picked up 4 more of them. There's a ton of them on the beaches in the area for some reason. I've live in this area for 15 years and this is the first time that I've seen this sea star around.

Just to let you guys know, taking any starfish from Florida waters, besides the Bahama star (which those are not), is against the law. I would highly suggest checking local laws before just going out and yanking creatures from the water ;)

I thought the Bahama Star was prohibited and the others were fair game within the bag limit?
