Its the classic game of who dun it?

    The wispy Pep shrimp?
    The stripped cleaner shrimp?
    The sifter goby?
    One of the Clowns?!
Or possibly one or more of the Hermit crab gang?

The little red Star Fish was last seen alive wedged in the LR.
Found this morning missing all but one leg.

    Who dun it?

on a serious note, how big was the starfish? Can't imagine a cleaner shrimp taking a star down, I say the crabs or goby maybe, tag team maybe?

Maybe the starfish just died. Old age, or water quality issues, disease. Its not always some other critters fault.

Do the areas where the arms came off look infected? Do you see the arms anywhere in the tank?

Are you positive it was dead?

The deceased was about 1.5" across. About a month ago half of one of its legs came up missing. I attributed that to the emerald crab who was banished back to the LFS. That leg seemed to be growing back. I thought itmight have died about a month ago. It was just hanging off the glass. So I moved it to the sand bed and within an half hour had moved off the sand and on to the rock. Since then he was sighted in various spots on the LR. Finally wedged up under one. My girls noticed he was in the sand and thought he had buried himself partially in the sand. I took a look and figured he was not so much buried in the sand but that major portions were missing. I took it out and eye balled it up close. Several legs look pretty much shredded but where two legs had come together it looked black or a darker red color. I have an orgional picture posted somewhere on this sight.

I did put it back in and the Pep went right to it and picked at it.

    Colonel Mustard - 2FF!

Not sure about the goby. I am some what over feeding the tank to replenish the sand for this gal who is looking pretty skinny of late but acting normal othrwise.

Its very common for star fish to start to lose legs when the are sick or dieing. Just saying it doesn't mean something ate it. I highly doubt it was the emerald. As for once it was dead, yes then the crabs will come for it, so they get falsely blamed for killing things all the time.
