So, before I joined 3reef and learned to ask everyone on here before buying anything, I bought some Seachem Reef Builder and Marine Buffer additives. Does anyone use these? If so, recommendations on usage?

The Reef Builder says to use twice a week but that should be unnecessary if my KH is already at the correct levels, right? How about the buffer, should that just be on an "as needed" basis as well?

honestly with what you have in the tank, dosing will not do any good. infact you may overdose. until you get more demanding corals then you may need to dose. as long as your saltwater mix measures well you're fine. the livestock will take up trace elements. just stay on top of water changes and tests and youl bee fine.

the biocube system is supposed to be simple which also means simple corals are to be kept. thats the way i see it.

i did use the exact same products from seachem in the begining to help with my cal. but that was only because my saltmix produced low cal.i like seachem salts they mix well.

I have used it and it and it wipped out my feather dusters. I then again tried it months later thinking it was a fluke and it did it again. I then tried it after adding mushrooms to the tank and they puked there guts out but dident die. Other then fish it made everything in the tank upset. I changed brands to seachems new products the propher 8.4 and had better luck. If your not housing corals or feather dusters id say its ok but I had bad luck with it with them. I went lighter then the directions on the package.

I does 1/4 teaspoon kalk with my top off RODI water morning and then at night. Every few days I add some Reef Builder. I find the kalk keeps the calcium high and the ph good but the alk stays around 7. I would like it higher so I might add it more frequently. To be honest my corla all seem good and I dont really notice any change if I dose reef builder or not.

You can see what I have ITO corals in my sig and I can tell you, I dose twice weekly with Reef Builder. I have to. It will easily dip four or more points of dKh in 7 days. There is an intrinsic relationship between Ca, Mg, pH and dKh. I keep my Ca and Mg at or around 460 and 1500 respectively. I keep my dKh between 12 and 15. pH will follow if you stabilize these parameters. Here is required reading for all those getting into corals. You won't need to add much with just Zoas in your tank. Just remember to ALWAYS test for what you dose. That is a steadfast rule.

I have used both of these products for years along with a number of other Seachem products. They are a good product like many other additives if you understand how to use them. Once your water test start to indicate the need for any additives I would keep a log to determine the rate of consumption then start a regular dosing schedule to keep the levels in check. If your water parameters are good I would not dose anything!
    Just my two cents
