I have the older model, I believe. I'll be cutting a bioball to attach to the impeller to break up the bubble a bit more.

    1) The inner tube is 9" long. What do I need to cut it to?

2)Does that black ring on top of the outer tube site on the bottom or does it sit towards the top of the skimmer?

    3) Do I need to shorten the collection cup?

    Any other suggestions?

    Thanks.

I made the same mistake buying that thing instead of something better. the two things I did to mine and it's been working like a champ are the inner tube mod and collection cup mod. I shortened the inner tube to about 5 1/2 inches and also took 3/4 of and inch from the collection cup tube. that outter tube black ring is towards the top btw. my next mod I'll try is drill the impeller a bit to chop up the air bubbles more. at the moment I empty out the collection cup weekly and it's been doing an ok job. still would love a better skimmer though but will try and get some money's worth out of this one with the mods until I want to throw it out the window.

I made the same mistake buying one of them years ago when I first started out. The best mod I did to it was pulling off the pump & throw the rest in trash. Then I bought a coral life skimmer which worked better but was still a pia. But maybe trying to drill holes in the impeller might help the water foam up better & reach the cup.

Thanks! I'll begin by cutting the inner tube and cup first.

I actually got the skimmer for free and had to buy the Maxijet 1200 for it. Not a bad acquisition.
