I have a 55 gal tank that I am using as a seahorse display tank. What species, lighting, filter suggestions do you have?

I plan on keeping a maxima clam as well. I have a coralife clamp on MH at the moment and will be placing a coralife 20" 1 X 96W 50/50 CF next to it. The clam will sit on the bottom under the MH.

I don't have a sump so the next best thing is a canister Filter. Still have not chosen the unit yet.

Maybe 20 or 30 lbs of LR. Re3mora protein skimmer as well. Low water movement. Snails. Lots of branchy stuff for them to hang on to.

Do any seahorse experts out there have more advice? What types of seaweed do you recomend as well?

    Thanks

First off I would do much more investigation before planning your tank contents.
A clam is not suitable as they sometimes close up on seahorse tails, causing damage that gets a bacterial infection leading to death many times.
Strong lighting is not the best for seahorses either.
It also would create more heat in the tank, again, a choice that leads to bacterial problems.
While some seahorses manage to survive in reef type systems, it is not the norm and indeed the recommendation is to have a species only tank and maintain temperatures between 68° and 74° for best chances of success.
I have a page of my experiences with links to important information at the bottom of the page.
