sealant for acrylic?

    you can goto home depot and get the 1/4 inch acrylic. when you make the sump make sure to dry fit it first. use duct tape or some other strong tape to hold it together, i use the blue painting tape. sand the edges so they are not rough without rolling the edge, keep it square. use a very fine grit, like drywall 220 grit on a flat board. any hole or any misguided edge will make havoc later on. if you need any help PM me.

    I bought the sealant "EXTREME REPAIR", made by LEPAGE from Home Depot. It claims that it is "Aquarium safe" and works on "wood, rubber, glass, many metals & plastics" Do you think it will work for the job?

    FYI, I tried lepage's extreme repair and it did not, despite its claims, work on arcylic very well.

    new issue

    so I went out and bought some WELD-ON #16, 6 bucks for a small tube. It says that it "contains chemicals known to the state of California to cause cancer" Well it is -40 (C) out, I would prefer to stay inside, but my workshop is not well ventilated. Should I be concerned about cancer or some other problem due to "vapours"?

    ventilation is the key, whatever you do, dont do it in your house. the lower temps will cause it get even thicker which may help. i crack the garage door when working with weld-on. i buy it by the gallon for $ 50

    Wow Weld-on

    WOW weld-on is amazing! It bonded the arcylic perfectly on my DIY overflow box (next comes the sump) no leaks on the first attempt! I can't imagine what you would need multiple gallons of this stuff for (reef guru you must be an arcylic machine!), IME only a small amount is necessary to create a super strong bond. Are you guys sure this stuff is aquarium safe (with the cancer warnings and all)?

    once the cement cures its reef safe. i wouldnt pour it out of the container in the tank cuz youll give your fish cancer

    The reason it is so bad is it acts as a solvent weld and not just a glue. It has some filler but most of the work is done by the solvent.
