Thats why I let you know I hadn't read the entire thread. A drop like that still isnt normal IMO.

Sorry you lost the cap. If you lived closer I would hook you up. I have caps coming out my ears.

Hope you get it figured out man.

If you are running bio pellets, I would suggest keeping your alk at 7.5 - 8.0. Everyone I've talked to that has been running them for awhile does this. Even Jon Warner says so. I have had mine running for about 15 months now, and anytime i ran it above 9, I seemed to have issues with anything montipora. caps, digi, encrusting etc. just fyi

ime, I prefer to have no sock...I'll run one once in awhile if I stir things up, like after a water change or something...but for the most part I like what they call "coral snow"..its beneficial to the whole system...imo
    good luck sean...clean that sock !! ; ) lol

So, I came home Saturday afternoon, after being gone from the tank for a week. My orange monti had gone through loss of zoox algae very quickly, even losing tissue/ polyps in one area. Though tissue loss seems to have receded (is that an oxymoron?), and polyps are still obvious over most of the monti. Color is coming back, but slowly...pics up later this evening, hopefully.

I lost my green slimer acro as well (to alk burns, I think). It wasn't very big. I have been thinking about trading my monti (only sps left aside form the pavona which is doing great), once it colors up fully, to the LFS or a local hobbyist so I can get some more LPS.Ii really like acans, and wall corals. I need some more color/movement in the tank.

I was going to get a fish today while in Columbus (visiting family). I never thought the fish store would be closed for a religious holiday, but they were. A lot of stores were actually. So still no fish for me and my tank. I hope to get some soon. The waste product should be beneficial to coral growth - I think that might be why favvids (sp?) don't do so well for me, generally.

Also, my return pump is down again. Dad called me when I was gone and said he smelled a 'burning' smell when the water in the sump was low so he unplugged it..and now it won't turn on? I will have to take it apart to see what's wrong.
