...finally found my glass drill bit. Amazing what a bit of cleaning can do. -.- I guess I will drill the tank later after I finish cleaning the house.

I just came back about an hour ago from visiting with my sister(lives an an hour away) for a week and a half.

The 29g tank is maybe half filled with water. Salt has "encrusted" on the powerheads and skimmer wires and water temperature is 92.5* F. The evaporation was due to high temperatures and the Marineland Stealth Pro heater may have raised the temp a bit as well - I am not certain. This is still without lights by the way(high temp.). Dad already topped off with 5 gallons of distilled water last week. We do not have an RODI unit, but I did plan to buy one. We do not have money right now to even get more distilled water from the store.

I am not sure what I want to do. I almost want to drain the aquarium and quit. I have been struggling to get the equipment I need - a little bit at a time - to do the 75g tank - as a reef...Buy something small when I can afford it and then wait.

I will be done with high school this next spring - meaning I will be then headed off to college. It seems the longer I wait the less sense it will make to buy aquarium stuff. I don't want to set up a tank just to have it up for 6 months. Dad has already said he won't have the time (or the know-how, really) to keep the tank up when I go to college. He will most likely leave town as well. In a way I want to sell all the aquarium stuff and wait until after college to start back up again. I don't know what Dad would think about that. He has put a few hundred dollars into helping me with this hobby(as recently as Feb.)...

It would be a shame to waste all that work and money, but then again, you have to decide what's best for your future in the long run. There will be a better time later if it comes to that...

One thing I had thought of was getting the material to make the nice skin for the 75g tank frame and maybe a canopy...then selling that all as a set to make some money. I don't know....I am upset right now and am just mentioning things I have thought about recently. I won't make any rash decisions.

probably stop trying to set up the aquarium for now... NOT QUIT.. but just save up the money.. if you really need to.. ( if there isnt a chance you can continue)

once you are settled in college, maybe you will be able to get an apartmet later on and then you can use all the equipment you already have instead of rebuying everything again. it will save you money in the long run. If i had not taught my mom how to do some of my stuff everything would be dead...

i gotta say she has done a really good job taking care of my tank while im away. Maybe you could teach your dad on how to do it little by little.

I literally built my tank out out my own money and was asking myself this very same question.. I do admit regreting getting my 150G tank for a good while as i could of spent the money on my books or something.. HOWEVER, looking back now.. i am glad i didnt.

long and contradictory story short.. LOL...
i would try to teach your dad the how-to-do's ... and if he likes it he will continue with it. Then when you have your own place, you can probably take your equipment and set it up then. :D but never give up!!!!!!!!
