Just got the new heater today. It is a 150w Fluval. I originally thought it was titanium, but seeing it out of the package at home, it has a glass outside, but looks like titanium underneath? It's kind of weird. maybe that's how they all are, I wasn't sure.

I also don't like that there is no indicator light to tell whether the heating element is on or off.

 

Had my LFS given me a refund rather than a simple replacement I probably would have gone online and gotten one of the titanium, Ebo Jager heaters or the newer Fluval heaters that have a cage around them.

I kind of want to find a new LFS...they are somewhat knowledgeable about livestock, but they don't carry any new technology...as far as equipment. But it is Pet Supplies "Plus".

They only cary Coralife skimmers...Aqueon T5HO lights, no metal halides, and no LEDs...no reactors...no biopellets. But they do still sell bio-balls.

 

That's what the 3reef sponsors are for. Order from them and skip the LFS completely. You will save money, and the hassle of the LFS selling you something that is sub-par.

I can't wait to get my lights. I've been drooling all over the coral sponsors' threads. haha

There is a much better selection of livestock online too. I just like to be able to go in there and look at a fish first. Oh well.

 

Most local stores sell only what sells. They won't carry high end supplies most of the time due to only a select few can afford them. Buy from 3Reef sponsors!

 

I dont buy anything (save a few select livestock) from my LFS anymore. They're out to make a quick buck, selling livestock that shouldn't be in anyone's aquarium.

Plus, ALL of their equipment/dry goods are at a 30-100% premium to what I find on 3reef sponsor's sites. A pump I paid $65 for online was $149 at this shop... couldn't believe it!

 

The part I found funniest, was that they were selling the Coralife 125 SS for $225. I payed $120 for the exact same skimmer, at a high end fish store in Columbus. But that store had quite a few different brands of skimmers.

Though I'm sure I wouldn't be laughing so hard if I had bought it at PPS and found this out after the fact.

 

+1 to this. Most of the time you will be able to save money online, get free shipping and best of all no taxes unless you live in same state as the vendor.

 

Hope the IRS doesn't read that.

 

I just confirmed my order with Reef Cleaners for a 29g quick crew. It should probably arrive on Thursday.
