Ummm, yeah. I think that could work. I'm interested to see what other people have to say. :)

Me too. :) I like that the IKEA is inexpensive. I like the style of it. I just don't know whether it would look good with my cabinet.

Oh, and the IKEA shades are 9" W, so that is another concern of mine. They would be pretty close together (though plenty of room for air circulation round the par30 heatsinks).

At least with LED's you don't really have to worry about a heat issue.

There is a build thread either on aquanerd or reefbuilders that has 5 PAR38s and uses the ORGEL shade from IKEA. It looks great!

I had seen that. Jake Adams posted it on Reef Builders. It was over a 53 or 90g corner bowfront.

I think they are too big for my tank though.

Port holes are painted and lenses are siliconed...not sure whether to show you guys now or be a tease and keep it secret until they are all done. :p

I will leak-test them on Sunday.

OK, here is what I came up with. I am not sure whether I like the silicone lines. They appear to be a bit crude. But I think an O-ring along that edge would cover the silicone nicely. Also, a faceplate for the front of the pvc. What I have done so far, is probably about $3 in parts.

Here is the longer one (5.25" long, apposed to the 3.5" above). It doesn't have a magnifying glass.

Here are some updated growth shots after about 3 weeks of the corals being in my tank.

The magnifying lens wasn't water tight when I tested it, but the other worked, so I still got some nice top-downs.
