Build is looking good Seano, sounds like you have things well though out!

As for the stand, I agree, taller is better. I like them for two reasons, you can stand and look without squatting and you can fit a taller protein skimmer. Most of the manufactures stands are just way too low and do not have enough room. 36" is good IMO.

As for the sand, I don't like sugar sand, but really it isn't bad as long as you don't have sand sifters. I've found the problem isn't so much it gets blown around, but rather once it gets suspended, it stays suspended until it's filtered out.

And for the Anthias, they are very active and will be a lot with the tang. Should be ok with 3 I think, although I'm not that familiar with the Carberryi anthias specifically. Some anthias don't do well in small groups and really do best in larger groups, others do, do well in small groups. You seem like the type of person who does his homework, so, I'm sure you'll figure out their social dynamics before purchasing though...

I'm looking forward to some updates :)

Thank you. I will be going at least 36" on the stand. The skimmer is 23.5." I'm thinking I like the height of a 42" stand.

Yeah I purchased sugar sand originally, thinking about sand-sifters. I thought it was supposed to be better on them, as far as not hurting the bellies the the fish. I hope I didn't make the wrong move on that. That was $120 worth of sand. lol. I was thinking about a sea cucumber and maybe a sand-sifting sea star further down the road.

I will read up some more before purchasing the anthias. I would like to get just 2 of them if that's possible. If not, I will look into a different variety of anthias.

Well, I have to get back to my school work now. I hope to give another update this weekend. Thanks everyone for following along!

Sounds good, definitely read up on the anthias, some species will not tend to do good in a pair, but there is a lot of variation between anthias species. Also, they tend to be deep water fish and some species don't adapt as well to bright light as others. just another consideration...

It's been about 30 hours of running time on the skimmer and have yet to produce any skimmate. The foam won't reach to the cup. When it does, it's all water, and not much color to it.

I tested my nitrates last week and they were around 15-20ppm. Just did a WC today....
