Hi, Vinny. I did a test scrap of wood (same kind I used on the stand) to see how it would look. Minus the brush strokes and this blemish I accidentally painted over, it will look like this.

I will be using 2 par30s in these metal pendants. It will looks similar to how I have the lights over my 29. But all white parts will be black.

IMO I would leave the fixture alone. Painting the parts that can heat up (not sure how much they do never owned one of those) can be dangerous. I like the look of the white fixture. I know some of the tank is black but think it will look great with the white cabinet.Maybe paint the cabinet first then decide on the fixture.:-/
    Don't see the test scrap.LOL

lol. You posted too soon. I thought I had a photo of it in my Photobucket, but I was wrong. :p

[Edit] The heatsink gets hot to the touch, to the point where I don't touch the bulb unless they are off...Never even occurred to me that the plastic gets warm too...ugh.

[Edit 2] Maybe I'll look for a lamp shade instead of painting? I guess that might look more like furniture anyway.

Just noticed this- Rolling will give you a bumpy texture on smooth wood, FYI. If you want a smooth finish, foam napping is the way to go. You could brush it too, the brush strokes won't be noticeable if done correctly.

This is simply not true. A quality 1/4 inch roller head wil give you just as smooth of an appearance and will not have the bubbling issue that some foam rollers produce and far better then using a brush for application.. Thin even coats are the key to a level surface.Adding too much paint at once is when you have issues with lumps. Also for leveling qualities Latex can not come close to matching an Alkyd or Enamel but for the purposes here the Latex should be acceptable.

    Thanks all for the help.

I changed the title to 9 gallons, after measuring the tank's inside dimensions. 19.5" x 9.875" x 10.875" = 9.05 gallons. But then I also have approx. 8-9 lbs live rock in the tank, so it's more like 8.5 gallons total volume.
