    Hi all,

I recently was given a Sebae anemone from a friend no longer wanting to run his tank. I've had the anemone in my tank for about 3 weeks now and hasn't moved at all from the location he settled into about a day or two after being in the tank. As I'm not very familiar with any anemones, so I was curious to get some feedback on how he looks. I was a little concerned about the fact he opens his mouth for extended amounts of time (as I've read about issues with gaping mouth).

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
    He is bleached.

Besides that the fact that he is attached and not moving around is a very good sign.

In the images the oral opening is not gaping too badly.

How old is your tank? Lighting type please?

Have you attempted to feed the anemone yet?

Congrats at getting it through the acclimation stage, Sebaes' are famous for acclimating poorly.

It might do very well in your tank but it needs to regain some Zooxanthellae to meet it's nutritional needs.

The tank is 2 months 1 week old at this point. It's a 29-gallon BioCube (non-HQI). I have attempted to feed him a small chunk of scallop, which he took in, then spit back out.

Will the regrowth of Zooxanthellae result in it getting some of it's color (yellow I assume) back?

So you have compact florescent lighting PC?

Typically Sebae turn a cream colored or tan in the average hobbyist aquarium. Which is ok.

You should try to feed again, tiny pieces try once to twice a week. Raw scallops, fish, clams will all work. If it expels it again just remove the piece from the tank so it does not contribute to a decline in water quality.

If this is PC lighting, unfortunately that decrease your chances. Not that it can't be done but you're tempting fate with a Sebae in a newly set up tank under PC lighting.

Your best course of action would to attempt to upgrade to T5HO or LED's but I do not know enough about them to recommend them for anemone care. MH might make the tank too hot.

Awesome, thanks for the feedback. I will look into economical ways of possibly upgrading my BioCube's lighting.
