I have this sebae anemone that I added to my tank about 9 months ago, it was being hosted by my clarkii clowns, unfortunately I had to re home the clowns, they started laying clutches of eggs and the female became the most aggressive thing ever.

Anyways, back on topic, the anemone has gotten to the size in my 75g that I'm going to have to re home that as well.... It's foot is attached to a piece of base rock in a nice little crevice/hole are there any tips or tricks to get the anemone out other than tearing down the whole tank to remove the rock? I haven't tried anything as of yet because I'm not quite sure which is the safest way to get it out without hurting or killing it.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Hi Faith and welcome to 3reef.

You can gently rub the foot with an ice cube, given some patience you might get lucky and the anemone detaches.

You can also try increasing the flow to the area the anemone is in hoping that the anemone will get up and move to a more ideal spot.

The fact the anemone is footed in a difficult area is going to require patience and perhaps multiple attempts.

    Good Luck

Thank you, I did think of the ice thing, but I'm always hesitant and prefer to ask first! Thank you for the welcome, I will post if I have success!

You're welcome and again good luck.

I have never injured an anemone's base removing them, it just takes a lot of patience sometimes. So much easier if they are footed on an easily removable rock or a flat surface.

Yes please let us know what worked for you.

Well after 2 attempts with the ice. It is still firmly planted on my base rock. My husband found it quite amusing that I was swearing at an anemone. I will try again when I have the patience and time.

    Ugh.

Yep, I am using rodi water, I certainly annoyed the anemone, not enough to get him to detach.... I think he is enjoying the wave maker blowing right on him, he's holding on out of spite.

Funny, I've gotten my nems to move by pointing a power head at them.
