I just lost a new sebae after only two days. I thought I was in good shape to add him. I'm not happy. Anyway, I've read alot of posts and other info about how a dying anemone can kill off a tank. We got him out as quickly as we could. That was yesterday. Today my beautiful purple tang is not well. He's just resting on the lr and has white spots on him as if they were bleached out.Yesterday, after we removed the dead anemone I did a partial water change right away. I am now checking my params. So far everything is normal. Can someone please tell me what I should be checking for and if there is anything I can do for my tang!!!

Sebae anemones are a delicate and demanding anemone to maintain in captivity. A mature tank, intense lighting, ideal water parameters and veteran experience is essential.
Having said this, it is unfortunate that you lost your anemone and I am very sorry as they are beautiful animals.
As for your Tang, it is very hard to access as so many variables can enter the equation and succumb your fish to its demise. You are going to want to check all the key parameters another water change and clean your filters to ensure they are performing ideally. Add carbon to help remove contaminants. Can you quarantine your Tang to add medication, though so many times if your fish is in the condition it is in as of now, it is so difficult to cure and right itself.
How are the other fish and invertebrates?

1 anemone is probably not going to fowl out a 72 gallon just because it died - you pulled it right away so I doubt that's why your tang is ill. Had it been dead for 24 hours...yeah, that could crap up your water. Do the spectrum of tests on the water and try to ID the issue. Run carbon as advised already and you already did the water change. I love Maracyn II as a reef safe med - but I would only medicate if your tang has labored breathing, clouded eye's (maybe scratching).

Thanks for your reply. I realize there are many possible factors in this. I did do another water change today. I will surely take your suggestion on cleaning the filter.I did add Garlic Guard since I heard that it helps the immune system. I don't know if will help any. If he hangs in there, how many more water changes do you suggest I do. So far all the other fish seem okay, but I'm really worried.

The water changes, Chris are a way of dilluting the amount of waste, nutrients and potentially harmful compounds that reside in your tank. This isn't an end all but one step towards bringing your tank back to where it should be.
You need to test your water and are you adding carbon?
The addition of iodine, albeit very carefully, is also a good way of helping your tank inhabitants due to its antiseptic properties among other things>

So I did a water change today, cleaned the filter and yes I do run carbon in my tank. So far all my testing has been good. The tang seems to have a little better color, but I'm not sure yet. I'll be afraid to check him in the morning. I really appreciate your help. If you think of anything else, please tell me. The more I learn about this hobby, the less I feel like I know. It seems to get more and more complicated. I'm trying very hard to get it all right.
