miss wisdom sponge was unable to help me (tsk tsk) but perhaps revelations came with sleep.

check out those tentacles, they are often out. im not sure if its feeding response or if its sketched out by a near by mushroom (Rhodactis). what ever the case, and i kid you not, the coral has the ability to make those tentacles "jiggle". im sure its not the current that moves them, not the way they do. i tried taking a video but it doesn't render it justice....so freaking cool!!!!!......

    so yeah any idea?

ya there are many different types brain coral.. The pic could be a bit better but looks similar to mine in a way as far as the structure. Amazing the length the sweepers can get to. Surprisingly when I search google for brain corals images with sweepers there are not a large amount. There are a couple so take a peak around.

I would be surprised if it was not a brain. Then again you learn something new each day here.

BTW, those sweepers can extend up to 6 inches from the main polyp, and they sport a potent sting. Their main purpose is to prevent other corals from invading their space. Several LPS species have them.

I can't help with an ID but that is a beautiful coral (I'm partial to purple) and the tentacles gettin' jiggy with it - too cool!
