I have some old crab shells that are full of it we can scrape off. Should be no problem.

Kriss if you need ?get with me Monday I'll get the guy to scrap a tank and send you some sand with plenty of coralline in it. I have it here so thick its blistering up and bubbling off the class . Or ger some snails from scott and crush the shells. Just don't run any skimmers and cut off pumps when you put the corallines in there.

Sounds good Roger. It sounds like Scott is going to get me fixed up. I'm running up to Premium Aquatics this morning to get 100 pounds of live sand, a second ground probe, and some pods for my madarin that's in the QT tank.
Hopefully I can get out to Scott's house this weekend for some of those crab shells.

I'd just put 10 lbs or so in there to seed my new sand . 100lbs of L/S will do nothing more then 10lbs for the system.

I can't find any base sand that is the grade I'm looking for. I really like the fiji pink Scott used. Good grain size and color. If they happen to have some base sand up there I'll get 80 pounds of that and a 20 pound bag of the live sand. If not I'll go ahead and buy all live sand.

The only problem of all L/S is you can not be sure of what it is and is it exhausted . could be a calcite type sand and the pure aragonite is far better at helping to hold water parameters steady , Oh I know what a lot of people say about aragonite and the amount of mineral it will release at the ph of 8.2 or so But it really does dissolve into solution as I have watched mine here get lower in the last almost 2 yrs. had about 2 inches to start and now like 1 to 1.5 inches is all thats left will be adding a new bag at some point . On the other hand Calcite won't dissolve for nothing until it get to about 7.0 ph

I used to custom sea floor grade I just like the texture and the little differences in grain size and it dissolves really well , I guess thats why its recommended for plenum's and such ? Last plenum I built I could put a ph probe under there and see a ph of low 6's so I know she was a melting the aragonite right on top of the plate.

PA has some custom sea floor grade but it doesn't say live or base sand. I'll take a look at it when I'm up there. Hopefully what they have is aragonite sand.
