No, I was the co founder and worked on the board of a Bird club here in PA. Did that for about 7 years. I also did work PT in a nice pet store for 2 years. But the parrots were from the club. :)

She had to place parrots that people didnt want in homes, because they're freaking loud and live to be a bagillion years old.

Oh my god!!! Exactly. It's not fair to the animals if you just get sick of them and then give them away when you 've had enough. You should think about it some more. Research doesn't mean you know it all.

HL, if you could not keep a reef tank, or a parrot, or any other pet, WHY would you subject yet another animal to such cruelty!

Parrots make excellent pets, if you know what you want. The bird in my avatar, is my pet bird . She is 11 years old. She will live to be about 70.

She requires toys to chew, about $25 per month should cover that. Her cage is large. I take her out nearly every day. I love her as much today as the day I brought her home. I wanted a quieter bird, but one that might talk as well as a bird that creates a good bond with it's family, not just one person. I chose and African Grey. While she is not the most flashy bird out there, she suited my desires in a bird. Another type of bird may have been too loud(Macaws), too mean(conures), too needy (cockatoos), or bond too strongly to one person to the point of being intolerate of family members (amazons). My point is, only after buying a bird, do people look at these factors and decide they cannot live with them. The birds are bonded (in the wild, they bond for life) and it is very stressful to the bird. Most of them suffer depression, feather picking, wasting away and so forth.

You are choosing to bring home an animal that bonds. You are bringing home two of them. In the birding world, one bird bonds to its owners, but two bond to each other. How do gliders bond? Will they be tame if you have two? Most birds are not.

You talk about a 'complete food'. From what I have read, they really need bugs, monkey chow, eggs, yogurt, even pinkie mice. Are you willing to do these things?

Are you willing to tolerate the odor?

How long until you tire of changing their papers and scrubing the bottom of the cage of urine and feces?

What are you seeking that you have not yet found in the animal world? I understand you are young and I am really just trying to help the animals and you. It is not easy to decide to give up a pet. Especially not over and over again.

well giopimentel, i have thought bout them a lot and no i don't just get rid of thiings when im tired of them..just because i have had all kinds of animals doesn't mean that i have just gotten sick of them and gave them away...and birdlady thank for all ur advice and it is well taken..yes i am willing to do that stuff for it...and i wont get tired of cleaning them..and yes they will bond to each other as well as the owner, u gotta play wit them and carry them around and when they get to know ur voice and scent is when they will start bonding....and i have read that there odor isn't that bad only when there young and when there horny or wit a female but other words it's not that noticible..
