I am moving to Hawaii in a few months and have decided to sell my tank to my boss back at school. She is a biology professor and has taken great interest in taking my tank. I have NO idea how much to sell it to her for a fair price, so I was wondering if you could help me get an idea of how much my tank is worth. I added everything I have spent on the tank and it came out to ~$1,400, which would be a ridiculous asking price. Here is a list of everything:

*55 gallon glass tank & stand
*20 gallon refugium with protein skimmer
*red sea wavemaker (with 4 maxijet pumps)
    *5 T5 lights
-4 are run on an icecap ballast (overdriven) and one is on a single ballast.
    *2 cheap heaters
    *60 lbs of liverock

    Inverts
    *brittle star
    *cleaner shrimp
*ORA derasa clam (5 inches long)

    FISH
    *medium size yellow tang
    *2 clownfish
    *1 royal gramma
    *1 green chromis

    CORALS
    *red sea pulsing xenia
    *baseball sized green stylophora
    *small pink pocillopora
    *medium toadstool leather
    *7 metallic green mushrooms
    *small montipora cap.
    *3'' tricolor acropora
    *1'' teal staghorn coral

any help would be most appreciated!

    thanks,

    Andy

Well, seems as though you're set on selling it whole, which will net you the least amount of cash. If you were willing to part it out, you'd get considerably more.

That being said: I'd start at $750.

I like Evolved's price, so something in that range would be good.

$500 would be the lowest I'd take.. not including breakdown, moving, or setup.

It really depends on the market & interest in your area. My area for instance SW tanks are a really small niche. I seen one guy that listed his 200g pimped out complete system for $2k (yes way high), but last I checked the add was still up and he was down to like $650 obo. Best bet would be to compare whats locally available and what they are asking & go from there.

it is already in her office. She was going to take care of it while im in Hawaii, but I decided to sell it because she has added way too much livestock. It went from my 4 fish to 9 fish (including a powder blue tang!) in a month. I told her 2 months ago that a powder blue should never be put in a 55 gallon......now she wants too add an anemone (and she hasn't even changed the skimmer cup!). I don't want to feel responsible if the tank crashes or for any deaths. I put so much time and effort into keeping these fish for the last seven years so I decided to sell it so I don't have to worry about it anymore

if you sold it on craigslist i bet you couldnt get more than 400, not to rain on the parade just being realistic. you see all these people on craigslist with 300 gallon gallon tanks selling them for like 5 thousand bucks. and they are on there forever. if you really want it sold dont ask that much. i sold my 90 gallon reef tank with 3 ritteris and a carpet nem for 500 dollars and tons of other sps corals

I think 400-500$ will be fair price..that's priced in my area for tanks similar to yours. if you part out, you may get another 100$ more but then you need to wait for sometime to sell everything.
