    Hi All,
my name is jordan and i recently purchased a jebo set: 80 gal. acrylic custom hood 3 t8 30w 10000k rena 3 can. 300w submerge heater. 75 gal. power head. 50 lbs uncured LR 40 lbs Fiji pink LS. I'm pretty sure i went about adding everything in the wrong order. I made my own salt water from tap water, added a product called amquel that removes the ammonia, chloramines and chlorine. I mixed the water directly in the tank. Then my first mistake i added the LS, which made the water cloudy. Then i added the LR. i didn't have my filter or heater on them for one day. I did all of the 7 days ago. I got antsy and bought 2 yellow tail damsels, 10 hermit crabs, and 10 crabs that clean the sand (forgot the name). i also got an orange star fish (guy at the store said it would be fine in 7 day old uncycled water). If someone could give me some advice on what i should do different, or what i could do better i would appreciate it.

Wow, I thought I was impatient (at least that is what Mommy says). You need to first start adding RO water anytime you top of or do changes. With fish already in the tank I would try doing a 20% water change every three days to get the tap water out. What is your parameters? You will be very lucky if you have any suvivors left after that one. If you had a place or friend to keep the fish I would take everything out and rinse it with RO water then fill tank back up w/o tap water and let it cycle. You need to slow down!

Well a little impatient, but before i added any fish i checked all my levels and SG and even took the water to a LFS and it was fine. The reason i added fish for one, my 3 year old daughter (daddy wheres the fish??) and two, the dude at the fish store said it would be alright (maybe a mistake).

Well, from everything I've heard, and from my limited yet very dangerous to that first group of fish experience...... Yellowtail damsels are nearly impossible to kill. The crabs may be a different story but who knows, I'm just a newbie too.

Yeah, thats what the guy at the store said, but from ottys advise i will go tommrow and buy some RO water and do a 20% WC. I also bought this stuff called cycle, adds BB. should i add more of that when i do the change? im also thinking of getting a skimmer. what would be a good one for my tank?

Just remember that the guy at the fish store is trying to make money. He makes money by selling you things. Every once and a while you can find a good LFS but sometimes you get one that will just take your money. Be very cautious with that. By the way, Welcome to 3reef!
As for a skimmer, I don't know if you are looking for a HOB or one for a sump but this is the type I use. AquaC - Protein Skimmers!
