I hope to be closing on my new house soon, but I'm very concern about having my saltwater tank and my septic field. I have read many different things and I'm just now sure what to do for water changes. Here I thought i would have a RO system put in so I wouldn't have go out and get water, but never thought twice about the septic field. Is there anyone that has a saltwater tank and septic field and care to share any input?

    What do I do?

Using the RO wouldn't be the problem (if I'm thinking of a septic field correctly), it would be dumping saltwater down the drain.

Septic Field or Weeping Bed etc is a rural thing mostly..

Instead of haveing a sewer line that the city deals with the sewage goes to a tank that the solids collect in and it 'weeps" the liquids off into a large under ground system of piping. Think overflow and a fuge without a return that is buried.

That said if you are buying the house at the moment it should be disclosed somewhere as to the size of the Septic tank. Never seen one installed any less then 600 gallons so the amount of saltwater being 'dumped" will be offset in a hurry by toilets, showers, dishes, laundry etc etc and you will never see an SG of any notice in the tile bed.

The tile bed or septic field is also a good 24" minimum under ground so it shouldn't have any effect on the grass other then lush green grass that you cut twice as often as the rest of the yard.

In short you shouldn't have a problem.

For the tank as in the aqarium? Nah it doesn't know where you dump the water..

For the Septic Tank? Nah unless you are doing 100+ Gallon water changes every week there shouldn't be an issue at all. Think where all the toilet cleaners, laundry soap and everything else down the drain goes.
