Never thought of that. Yup. Ammonia from the die off and bleach. Jeez. Ventilate also. Ventilate well. I breathed in some of that once. Took a few days to recover.

Yeah, the ammonia from die off (and I had a LOT of it) + bleach = UGH! The funny thing is that I really didn't notice the chlorine until I starting pulling particular rocks near the bottom of the can. My 4 yr old was in the garage with me (it's half of the garage that is enclosed and heated/cooled - we call it the man room). Anyway, I made him stand away from me. My wife came in with our 10mos old and I made her leave. By the effect it had on me, I can't image what it could do to 10 mos old lungs.

Anyway, just something to remember when we are bleaching!

New tank, stand, and canopy (11/5/08)

Ok, well, I did it. Since I brought the old tank down, I decided to replace it and the stand with something that looked nicer.

The new tank is 120 gal as opposed to the 110gal before (not much of a volume upgrade). It is about 5" shallower than the 110, so maintenance will be easier. The big thing for me is that it's 6" more front-to-back (24" vs 18") and the extra front-to-back depth looks so awesome to me. (Not to mention the canopy and stand look so much better than that old stand I was using! - That made the wife happy!)

The other big plus is that my old tank was not drilled, so I was using a HOB overflow. The new tank has dual built-in mega flow overflows.

    Here's a pic:

You are going to love that tank. I am in the process of setting one up (with my first sump) and transfering from an undrilled 125. I too like the depth of the 120. Did you get the overfow kits? They make operation worry free.

Update - lights in canopy, water flowing, live rock formation

    Just a quick update...

The tank is now plumbed to the downstairs sump and water is flowing. This evening I will probably add some bleach to the system to clean up any residual algae from the last setup. I have also mounted the light fixture inside the canopy. It gets very HOT under the canopy now, so I may have to add a fan or two to help cool it down (the light fixture itself only has one small fan).

Here's a picture of the tank with the water flowing and lights on. I put eggcrate on the bottom to help protect the bottom glass. The lights on this tank look bluer than on the old tank (maybe the glass is a bit different, I don't know.)

The live rock I bleached is now setting on a tarp drying out. Last night, I played around with the arrangement of the rock. I'll probably end up with something similar to this when I put it in the tank. This is the same arrangement viewed from different angles:

Great aquarium. You have to be excited. Any pics of the filter room?

    Matt,

There are a few pics in this post:

    http://www.3reef.com/forums/show-off-your-fish-tanks/sessionthrees-110g-tank-53773.html#post503173

These were taken a couple of months ago when I first setting up the tank before. Since then, I modified the sump so that the return section (on the left side) is smaller which made the refuge section larger. I'll post better pics of all that stuff when I get the new setup farther along.

By the way, this room is what my 4-yr old and I have been calling the "man room" since we moved into this house. Now it should more appropriately be called the "fish room" I guess. It's basically half of my 2 car garage that has been closed-in (sort of) and is heated/cooled along with the rest of the house.
