So I was able to obtain a 40breeder with 20l sump combo a few months back and now I am seriously considering about setting it up. Here are somethings that I have to use and somethings that I am looking to add to my upcoming system. Just wanted to know what your thoughts are as to the equipment I will be using. And if you can think of something I can add to make my life easier down the road.

The lighting and return pump I don't have yet but I listed what I am interested in purchasing.

Also for the sump, I am thinking about using a faster growing algae like caluerpa.

    40b w/20l sump
    160w Maxspect Razor (considering)
    AquaC XpPlus Reactor for bio-pellets
    Refugium
    9004 skimmer
    Autotopoff.com ATO w/ aqualifter
    Mag9 return (considering)

Livestock goals is SPS dominant reef.
    TIA

The only thing I can recommend to make your life easier down the road is to skip the caluerpa.

When I bought my original ball of chaeto, it had some caluerpa intertwined within it. I never noticed it was there until it started growing later on. It eventually went sexual on and bombed my tank. Lost a decent amount of my corals.

Couldn't get rid of it after that either since it invaded my DT.

the interest of growing caluerpa peaked me because I was saw a youtube clip where a guy had a sump full and he was able to maintain a heavy bioload of fish along with his reef. I've grown cheato in the pass and it could not keep my nutrient levels down without much help from GFO, and biopellets.

As far as the lighting go, any opinions? I did a lot of research on the maxspect and looked at one over a LFS tank. The color is very nice and the price is affordable.

I can't find much information of these lights in association w/ sps corals. There are tons of threads/info with the radions and sols but not razors. I wonder how they grow acros compared to the higher end fixtures.

have you looked into reefbreeders fixtures? I like how the led's are spaced out on the reefbreeders alot better than on the maxspect. Seemed to have slightly better coverage and less spotlighting.

Chaeto is a high-nutrient absorbing macro algae just like caluerpa. The thing with cheato is that it is best to have it turning somewhat in your sump/refugium to spread the light out or turn it manually every once in a while. It needs to be pruned quite often as well to be most effective.

Check out reefcleaners.org . John has a huge variety of macro algae and I'm sure you could find one that suits you. He has a ton of various caluerpas too.
