I think the Bristletooth Tang I added to my 55g about 2 weeks had a little bit of ich on him when he arrived. I did not QT but since reading a few threads about it have decided on setting one up with a small tank I received.

My skunk cleaner gave him a solid going over the first few days he was in the tank, leaves him alone now. I'm interested to figure out how much the cleaner shrimp did to help him. I think alot, I'm considering getting a few more cleaners to make a "cleaning station".

I also try to feed a variety of food including alot of seaweed/algae based foods to keep the immune system high.

The fish seems to be going great guns now.

I have a 150 gal tank. 2 clowns, falco hawkfish, sleeper banded goby, black sailfin blenny, blue/green chromis, six line wrasse, and a tomini tang.
No where near overstocked. I'm using a trigger bursa skimmer rated for 300 gal tanks and the Trigger ruby 36s sump

Cleaner wrasse and skunks shrimps remove the visible cyst (white spots) or eggs if you will it does not remove the parasite that lurks deeper in the skin, gills (most dangerous) sand bed and of water column

I mentioned in another thread how important I think cleaners are for helping out with ich, and since you mention gills...

I've watched them clean the gills of larger fish. Inside the mouth also. Of course they aren't able to completely remove the parasite but I'm positive they help.

Previously he mentioned that the sailfin died after having ich but didn't think it ever took to eating. I wonder if it's gills weren't severely affected because I've personally not had a sailfin not eat unless it was very sick. They're one of the best eating fish I've ever kept.

I just wonder if the fish didn't die from the ich after all.

It was constantly pecking at all my live rock and appeared to actively be looking for food, just not any of the seaweed I put in or flake or omega one cubes

The visisble white cysts are just one phase of the life cycle of Ich. As mentioned, just because you don't see the fish does not mean the fish is still not infected. And as far as I know, cleaner shrimp will not do anything for Ich besides maybe offering some relief to an infected fish (like scratching at poison ivy; may help for a bit, but you still have it!).

+1 in my absolute ignorance I'm glad I have ich in my tank otherwise my cleaner wrasse would have a hard time! This said I have yet to lose a fish to ich, maybe I did without knowing but no fish that I pulled dead hand major white spots over him. For those that saw the video my cleaner does eat the "mix" but I understand its not its natural diet....hence why I'm glad I have ich.... This is me and my set up. Please keep this in mind, if it works for me it does not mean it will work for you, but I'm happy with my balance
