I want to set up a quarantine tank. I have not set up one before.

I have an extra 100 gallon tank sitting around that I can use. Is this too big? Also what can I use for filtration? Can I move 15 or so pounds of my life rock into the quarantine tank to help?

    Thanks for any help.

I mean, really a 100g tank for a QT is pretty big but if you want you can! Its not big deal, all you need really is a canister filter or something, or a couple HOB filters..You dont need LR in the tank, but you could put some in the HOB filters for a biological filter. Why dont you setup another reef with a 100g? and get a smaller tank for a QT instead though?

for A QT tank you dont want any LR or sand. bare bottom. i wrap mine on all sides with black aquarium background except for a small viewing window in the front. you will need some type of filtration. simple HOB filters will work fine, but its suggested to use something to provide heavy biological filtration such as foam prefilters. besides that all u need is a heater and throw in some PVC pieces so they have somewhere to hide and not feel so "out in the open". also as for lighting i just use a simple single fixture t-8 setup with an actinic bulb in it. they dont need alot of light in there.

depending on what you are using for you need to tweak it a little.

if your using for disease treatment i keep mine at

    sg:1.010-1.015
    temp: ~80

if its just a holding tank to make sure they are eating and are disease free, use standard water params.

    Thanks,

My biggest concern is the biological filter. Any filter I add now will take awhile to work. This is why I wanted to add live rock.

use some water from your other tanks to get it started, if you have any old filter media you can use it to start cycling your tank with it. try to transfer as much bacteria from an existing system as possible
