I am going to set up 10 g quarantine tank. So, what do I need for that?
I've heard that I would need to put 5-10 pounds of live rock?

1)So, do I need to cycle the quarantine tank? Is it the same 4-6 weeks ?
    2) Do I need to add sand there?
    3) What type of filter is the best for QT?
    4) Should I use water from the main tank?
5)Do i need to put powerheads there for moving water?

    Thank you very much;)

    1) I didn't cycle mine, but I had put the sponge I used in hob filter in main tank 2 weeks prior to setting up.
    2) no sand, leave bare bottom so you can easily remove debris/dirt
    3) standard hob filter with sponge
    4) I would use freshly made water
    5) I found the movement made by my hob filter was sufficient

Most don't put live rock in, however I put a small piece I didn't need in but only to keep the PVC piping from floating. If you treat with copper make sure you don't put live rock back in main tank.

It's pretty easy. 10 gallons is good. No live rock, no sand, no power head. Hang on back bio wheel will suffice. Fill the tank with the water from the display tank. Heater. Maybe PVC pipe for hiding place. Cycle isn't necessary. Keep good tabs of your water parameter.

    That's bout it.

No LR in the tank. You could use pvc pipe for the fish if they want to hide depending on the size of the fish?

    1. a) Yes you need to cycle the quarantine tank. If your parameters are good in your DT, you could use that water to do the water changes for stability. (That's what I did as it quickened my cycle.) Plus i keep a chromis inside to keep the bacteria alive.

    b) Depends

    2. No sand added either. Unless you plan on keeping reef safe wrasses then get a small Tupperware container and put some of your DT sand in there. It will make their transition easier.

    3. A simple HOB with a bio wheel.

    4. Refer to 1.

    5. You don't have to.

I also added an air line inside in case power goes out and that air is still provided.

QT tanks often end up as hospital tanks so everything in the tank must be able to be disinfected or it gets thrown away after each use so you don't contaminate the next addition.

A simple side filter like an AquaClear with a foam insert is what I use, the foam stays in my sump so it is charged with bacteria and can be used at a moments notice. When I am done I toss the filter foam and stick another one in my sump for next time. Another option is an internal air lift foam filter.

I do not cycle the tank since I am using the charged foam and I always use new saltwater, never tank water.

I add a few pieces of PVC pipe of fittings to hide in, a heater, a small powerhead and a light suitable for the inhabitants. Keep it simple.

I drain the tank after each use as I tend to keep adding inhabitants to any tank with water in it so the QT ends up as another display. When I store the QT all the components are stored in the tank along with an extension cord so I can have it up and running in about 15 minutes.

Is a 10gal tank big enough? Wouldn't that small of a tank stress out certain fish, making them more susceptible to disease? Just a thought I had and wanted to get some inputs. Thanks
