I'm kinda new to this I have a couple saltwater tanks but this setup will be new to me. What I am doing is setting up a 400 DT about 2' off the ground and the fuge will be in a supply closet 6' away .So the plumbing will have to come from the overflow in the DT tank and travel 6' in the air to be plumbed thru the ceiling. I guess I'm going to need a pump to do this and a return pump but how do I calculate this. Thanks in advance for the help and this tank will be going up after the first of the year so I will put a build log when I do.

    No worries

What you are wanting to do is easy and done all the time using gravity. Take the height at bottom of DT overflow let's say it's @ 24" the inlet/lets to refugium should be at 23" +- you will be good with MIN. 1/8" to 1/4" drop per foot of run. With that size DT 400 gallon i would have at least (2) 1 1/2" overflows from main tank to sump/refugium also Reeflow pumps would work well for return and give you options with flow.
The hanging in the air with plumbing is not good as you know must be supported and again easy to do:)

    Happy ReefN,

the refugium will be above the 23" mark. it will actually be about 4' off the ground. don't laugh i did a Microsoft paint to show what I'm after.

Ok so i guess as long as the water in the overflow is higher than the water in the fuge gravity will be my friend.and then all i need is a return pump.

    The right input

From your drawing i take it that your DT and filter are on the same floor but you are going through ceiling of lower floor under your DT over 6' then up to filter?
Gravity feed won't work if so and if you are using (2) pumps as shown and if the one goes out under DT you may be in trouble as the second pump will still be sending water to DT. Am i understanding this right i wouldn't want to give you bad advice.

    Not sure

That's a install i have never done, so all i can add is maybe a sensor so if one pump stops the other will stop too. Good luck with this one maybe some other members will have better ideas.

    Good luck RHoughton1
