setting up fuge/phosphate reactor

    Hey guys,

    This question is kinda 2-ply or 3-ply...maybe 4-ply...i'm not exactly sure:confused:, but it's regarding phosphate removal. I currently have "phosguard" in a filter bag sitting inside a whisper 30 (LFS said to put it anywhere where there is some flow, and i thought why not put it in there?)

    I am setting up a 10gal fuge for the tank and i was thinking, would i be able to put the filter bag on the line coming from the tank going into the fuge? Aren't phosphates the things that the macroalgae snack on? So thinking of this, i thought why not invest in a phosphate reactor (I.E. TLF phosban reactor 150)

    Now the question is, could i install the reactor inline with the return? The return pump is rated for 350gph (magdrive3) I read that the reactor could only take a max of 100gph for phosban (im guessing for any granular phosphate removal media). I plan on running carbon, after i get my phosphates under control. So if the magdrive is too much, then should i just buy a pump ideal for the reactor and stick the pump in the same chamber as the return pump(magdrive)? and the return line from the reactor back into the same chamber?

    Or would this work inline back to the tank...

    any input would be greatly appreciated!!!

    I have the same p04 reactor and you could run it inline wih your fuge. I have mine inline with a current chiller running off a maxi 1200. Use the valve on the reactor to turn the flow down.

    but wouldn't the valve decrease the amount of flow leaving the reactor thus creating less flow back into the tank?

    Yeah technically. I haven't had any problem with the way mine is working though. If you are running a fuge then you want a slower flow through it any way to allow time for it to work its magic.

    true true, but i was just worried about the incoming flow to the fuge compared to the outgoing flow

    How are you getting your incoming water a overflow box. If that is the case forget what I said.

    haha yeah, its from an overflow box...hehe

    so should i just have it pump water from the return chamber and back to the return chamber?

    Either do it that way or have the outlet of the p04 reactor return the water to the tank

    i don't know what it is but i'm very stumped...

    Ok, so if i have the pump for the PO4 reactor in the same chamber as the return pump, would it effect anything?

    I guess i'll just have to try it and see what happens... anybody else?

    you should just have a seperate pump for the reactor. Use a valve to attenuate flow through the reactor so you can get the media to become fluidized and not tumbling violently in the reactor nor just sitting stagnant at the bottom of the reactor. You can hang the reactor on the sump so that the return feed of the reactor is in the same compartment of the return pump for the tank.
